1. How do I license my dog?

Bring a current rabies certificate for each dog to the Police Department to purchase a license.

2. Why do you only accept animals from within Shafter city limits?

Our shelter is very small and can only accomodate the animals from city limits. Also, a stray animal should be turned into the shelter of the jurisdiction where it was found. This helps to match the animal with the righful owner, if one is located.

3. Do you adopt animals out to the public?

Yes. We offer adoptions onsite, from our adoption website and on special offsite adoption days.

4. I came out to the shelter during business hours, but nobody was there.

Our business hours are by appointment. If you call us at 661-746-2140 ahead of time, we can arrange to accomodate you at the shelter.

Building permits are required for buildings or structures, which are to be constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted, demolished, and including all electrical, Mechanical and/or Plumbing work.

Visitation hours are from 8:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitation is permitted from 8:00am to 3:00pm on the following holidays:

A tract map is required whenever a property owner wishis to subdivide property for sale, lease, or financing into more than 4 parcels. Standard condisions to approve a tract map include:
