Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART)
The Domestic Abuse Response Team is a collaborative effort between the Shafter Police
Department and the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault. The Shafter
Police Department committed to this collaborative venture in 1999 and is proud to be a law enforcement supporter of the Alliance.

The purpose of the collaboration is to provide follow-up service and assistance to victims of
domestic violence in our community. Law enforcement personnel partner up with an alliance
advocate and review incident reports and respond in person to incident locations to check with
victims to assess needs or help. We provide clarification on the legal process and make sure
victims understand their options in difficult relationships.

Domestic violence has been one of the top focus issues by the leadership of the department.
The reality that there is a nexus between domestic violence and various other crimes and
problems which can be outcroppings related to domestic violence situations makes dealing
with this delicate and complex issue a much needed priority in law enforcement.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STATISTICAL INFORMATION

For public and educational purposes, the Shafter Police Department has attempted to delve deep into the Domestic Violence incidents which have occurred in the City in order to provide what may be some enlightening information to some, and statistical information for others. It is an on-going process, but available for downloading are two years of very specific statistical information regarding Domestic Violence that may assist collegiate students or other researchers in the D.V. field. Additional years are still in process so check back with us later. If you wish to inquire about the information collected, please contact Captain Jeff Bell as this has been his project.
