Police Activities League (PAL)
What is PAL? PAL is a non-profit 501 (C)(3) organization developed in the fall of 2007. There are three main goals of PAL:
- To provide quality activities for the youth of our community;
- To provide local youth with focus and direction, helping them become responsible citizens;
- To establish positive relationships between youth, police and the community.
PAL accomplishes this through providing a common meeting ground for police, citizens and youth of Shafter in the area of athletics, educational and recreational activities. We provide children with a safe place to gather and interact for youth sporting events and other enriching youth activities that take place in a safe and supervised environment. The Shafter Police Department in conjunction with the Richland School District commenced the program in an opening ceremony on Friday, April 4th, 2008.
The program not only fosters and encourages youth in American principles, but principle and traditions of sportsmanship, good will and friendship. Although the primary focus at this time is the boxing program, PAL is working on providing computer access, a library, and an after-school study atmosphere. We will also have a play room with fouse ball, a pool table (already donated), ping-pong, air hockey, and interactive video games.
We plan on beginning competitive programs of basketball, volleyball, baseball, along with our exciting boxing program!!

TARGET, COMES THROUGH AGAIN!!
(August 10th, 2010)

Once again, TARGET, continues to participate in their local communities. The City of Shafter PAL program has been supported by TARGET in the past and TARGET has once again contributed to our PAL program $500 through their Law Enforcement Grants program.
Since 1946 TARGET has given 5% of their income to the communities they serve, equaling more than $3 million dollars every week. The more than 1,700 TARGET stores carry this tradition by making local grants and providing volunteer hours. In 1990, TARGET established the Law Enforcement Grant Program which supports law enforcement and public safety organizations working to make local communities safer. Since its inception, the Law Enforcement Grant Programs have awarded millions of dollars to local law enforcement efforts.
All our Shafter PAL kids thank you TARGET!

NATIONAL YOUTH VIOLENCE PREVENTION WEEK
March 22-26, 2010, is National Youth Violence Prevention Week. Youth violence refers to harmful behaviors that can start early and continue into young adulthood. The young person may be a victim, an offender, or a witness to the violence. While violence impacts people of all ages, violence disproportionately affects youth and is the second leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 24.
Because of the multiple factors that contribute to the development of violence, a comprehensive preventative approach is needed. Youth violence prevention also requires collaboration among justice, public safety, education, public health, and human service agencies, with the support of community leaders, businesses, and faith-based organizations.
