Shafter Residents must comply with several City and State restrictions for water usage. Not complying with regulations can result in fines up to $500 per violation. 

  • Restricted Outdoor Watering: Residents and businesses must comply with a restricted outdoor watering schedule which may not exceed 3 watering days per week as follows.
    • Watering permitted NORTH of Lerdo Highway Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
    • Watering permitted SOUTH of Lerdo Highway Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
    • NO watering permitted on Mondays
    • NO watering permitted between 10:00AM and 6:00PM
  • Additional Regulations: Other water wasting activities have been prohibited by the State and will be subject to citation and fines.
    • Allowing sprinklers to spray water in excess so that water runs onto sidewalks, driveways, or into the street or gutters. 
    • Spraying driveways or sidewalks unless necessary for health or safety purposes. 
    • Washing a car without a shutoff nozzle.
    • Operating a fountain or decorative water feature that does not recirculate water.
